Jesus said he came to make his disciples fishers of men

Mouse over the verse's then you can read (please note under construction)

Jesus was walking along the beach at a place called Gallilee you might like to view a picture and find a bit of history click here , anyway he bumps into a couple of dudes one called Peter and the other his brother Andrew.  Peter and Andrew were fishermen and that is exactly what they were doing when Jesus came along Mat 4:18-20.  In fact they had just cast out their net when, Jesus called out to these two dudes and said "come follow me and I will make you fishers of men" Mat 4:19.   The Bible tells us that they left their boat off they went to follow Jesus.  What sort of impression did Jesus make on these guys?  He didnt offer them any money, just follow me and off they went.

Just a little farther down the beach Jesus comes across another couple of brothers working together, James and John mending nets with their father.  They saw Jesus and they too dropped their tools of trade and off they went to follow Jesus.   This is the beginings of Jesus ministry which I do not intend to go into too deeply here but I just wanted to set the seen for the following debate.

Who is Jesus is he a
  • Prophet? Some would say yes to this
  • Teacher? Many even non Christians would agree to this
  • Good person? He healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, and healed the lame so they could walk, so yes I guess you would say he was good.
  • Was he delusional? Well he baffled lawyers and the best of the religous leaders of the time so this is hardly unlikely.
Jesus in John 14:6 clearly stated "I am the way the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father but through me", this verse alone is very significant..  Right through the Old Testiment God addressed himself as the "I am" Gen 15:7, Gen 17:1, Exo 3:14 Psalm 46:10, these two words had Jesus in trouble with the religious leaders many a time as by saying I am it was infering he was God, thus he was seen as blasphemous.
